Halvah

Halvah reminds me of my childhood. I found this amazing recipe and I thought it deserves a place in my dietary corner. My daughter and I don't eat any sweets, but we love this amazing homemade treat. This halvah has also gut healing properties due to pumpkin seeds in the recipe.

Preparation time: 15min

You will need:

1 cup of pumpkin seeds

1 cup of sunflower seeds

1/2 cup flax seeds

1/2 cup sesame seeds

2 tablespoons coconut oil (organic, cold pressed)

1 tablespoon honey (try using your local honey)

1 teaspoon dried orange skin (or freshly grated orange skin)

1 teaspoon dried lemon skin (or freshly grated lemon skin)

* 1 cup = 50ml

Blend all seeds until they become a smooth paste. You can use food processor or coffee blender. Add coconut oil, honey, orange and lemon skins. Mix with a spoon carefully until all ingredients are mix well together.

Place in a small dish( I use 11cmx11cm = 4inx4in or 11.5cm =4.5in diameter dish) layered with baking paper. Spoon in the paste, and press firmly down for it to stick together. Let it rest in the fridge for at least 3 hours.

Halvah is delicious to nibble during the day. I like to serve it with sweet cherries on the side (you can use frozen once during winter time). Halvah will stay fresh up to 4 days.
